Bauer & Hockey Canada FIRST SHIFT Program

FirstLineNew_NavLogoVecPort Alberni has been selected to once again host Canadian Tire / Bauer and Hockey Canada First Shift program for the 2016/2017 season.

“The First Shift makes the hockey experience possible for everyone. We provide all the equipment and necessities for the program so all you have to do is show up and get involved. Our goal is to change the way hockey is offered to bring 1,000,000 new families into the sport worldwide over the next 10 years.”


This program includes:

 BAUER equipment, head to toe.

  • Helmet Combo including Facemask
  • Shoulder & Elbow Pads
  • Base Layer Top w/ Neck Guard
  • Jersey, Pants, Socks
  • Shin Guards
  • Jock/Jill Under Protective Shorts (for boys & girls)
  • Gloves, Stick & Skates


  • Program Overview, Education
  • Introduction to on ice instructors
  • Expert Fit Session & Equipment Collection


  • 6 Weeks, 1x/week, 1 hour
  • Consistent day and time
  • Focus on fun; precursor to ‘learn to skate’
  • 1:4 Instructors: Participants Ratio
This program is FULL.  (Maximum 45 players)

AVMHA Update – September 22, 2016

Welcome/orientation October 3rd upstairs at the Multiplex. Ice time each Friday as per the following dates will be 5:15-6:15 (Left side – Coulson Rink).

  • Oct 14  –  Oct 21  –  Oct 28  –  Nov 4  –  Nov 18  –  Nov 25
  • No ice (Nov. 11th – Remembrance Day)

Arrive approximately 40-45 minutes ahead (for dressing if not arriving in gear).  For first day and have name taped big and bold to front of helmet.

Kids that complete the First Shift program are eligible to register for the regular minor hockey program for December 2016.
